THE HAPHAZARD GOURMET by Richard Gehman

THE HAPHAZARD GOURMET

By

Pub Date: April 26th, 1966
Publisher: Scribners

Mr. Gehman's cheeky inventory is at least alphabetically arranged and proceeds from a New York hangout, the Absinthe House, to Airline Food (do not eat) to Asparagus Milanaise (a recipe here) to Aspirin (you may need it) to Aunt Alice's Aphrodisiac to zucchini, lovingly and at length. You'll pick up all kinds of comments on celebrities (Jackie Gleason-- ""a comedian who works solely to support a stomach that seems to exist independently of the body in which it is housed or insulated""); other cookbooks; drinks; restaurants; or even Bee Spit. It's been parboiled in entertaining prejudices-- his own--and prepared with a definite raffish sophistication. It should do very well as a gift for the man who has everything except this which is fun.
