Mr. Goldstein is one of those verbal virtuosos who can synopsize the scene in twenty-five words or less...or more as in these pieces written off the top of his consciousness for The Village Voice, Eye, New York Magazine etc. They are about rock and recent superstars -- The Stones, Leonard Cohen that ""Visceral Romantic"", Janis Joplin, Mama Cass, ""Crazie Herbie"" otherwise known as Tiny Tim. Jim Morrison, Country Joe and the Fish; Aretha, of course the Beatles and even Dick Clark with his ""musical Miltown."" This isn't history, it's not even real criticism, simply Goldstein grooving in his very personal, very connected and always entertaining way. And if you haven't tuned out because of the plethora of books on the subject, you'll enjoy it.
