Three recent sightings of the Sasquatch, aka Bigfoot, on and near Mount St. Helens move boorish California developer David Addison to offer a $100,000 reward to anyone who can capture the elusive creature. The competitors: Dr. Thomas Bondurant, of the British Museum; 30-year veteran Sasquatch-hunter Emile Thibodeaux; airbrushed TV-documentary producer Roger Whitcomb; Alford and Elford Pollard, with their truckload of plaster casts of footprints and ``fecal evidence'' in tow; and Dr. Sonja Popoleyev, of the St. Petersburg Institute of Primate Study, who's hired Portland p.i. John Denson (Whoo?, 1991, etc.) and his colorful cohorts to help in her search for the missing links she calls troglodytes recens—``Stanley'' and ``Stella'' to you. Inoffensive Alford Pollard is scratched from the race early on by a .22 slug, and there's more murder to come, but nothing to keep you from enjoying laid-back Denson's flip commentary on a search that Hoyt leaves tactfully unresolved. Sly fun, as always, for outdoorsy readers everywhere.
