DIALOGUE WITH ERICH FROMM by Richard I. Evans

DIALOGUE WITH ERICH FROMM

By

Publisher: Harper & Row

Under a grant from the National Science Foundation which will extend to further volumes concerning the work of other psycho-sociological leaders, Dr. Evans has recorded his interviews with Dr. Fromm in Cuernavaca, Mexico. It is an adept job, summarizing the essence of Fromm's thought, particularly in the realm of psychiatry and psychoanalysis. Dr. Evans quizzes Dr. Fromm on character orientations and escape mechanisms, Fromm's humanistic psychoanalysis as compared to other techniques which Fromm assesses, the historical background of Fromm's thought, philosophical observation and reflections on contemporary social problems, Fromm on himself: ""I feel somewhat like a pupil and translator of Freud who is attempting to bring out his most important discoveries in order to enrich and to deepen them by liberating them from the somewhat narrow libido theory."" Evans on Fromm: ""a significant contributor of the modern era--not only to psychology, psychiatry and psychoanalysis but also to social thought in the broadest sense."" Kirkus on Evans: a good introduction or quick study which should encourage further reading of Fromm.
