JOHN DEWEY

John Dewey appears in The Great American Thinkers Series, designed ""to present the flow of American thought from colonial times to the present."" Mr. Bernstein has tried to present ""a sympathetic (but also critical) comprehensive statement of Dewey's intellectual vision,"" at the heart of which is Dewey's theory of experience and the way in which experience is related to nature. He also comments on Dewey's conception of philosophy as the criticism of criticisms, and has avoided the label approach.
