THE TRAVELS OF MARCO POLO by Richard J. Walsh

THE TRAVELS OF MARCO POLO

By

Publisher: Random House

A colorful account of Marco Polo's journeys and life at the courts of Kubla Khan, but one that has little to recommend it over the many that have already been written. Notable among the latest is Manuel Komroff's Marco Polo published by Messner last year (p. 508), a deeper, broader book than this. A plain style here doesn't do much justice to the wonders Marco saw. But it is faithful, and reinterprets accurately much of what he experienced as confidant to the Khan, as ambassador, and as an absorbed observer of strange customs.
