Joan Mead, lady lawyer, does not bring a professional cool to the case after she discovers the murdered body of her Aunt Ruth, a cryptic columnist in her isolated country house. The police seem to be having their professional problems too-leaving Joan alone after she emphatically states that she saw a man with a strange face lurking about: not to mention getting stuck in an elevator at the most crucial moment. Definitely malpractice somewhere--on the author's part?
