HOW TO KNOW THE MINERALS AND ROCKS

Pub Date: Oct. 26th, 1954
Publisher: McGraw-Hill

A handbook for the hobbyist and collector describes and analyzes more than 125 minerals and rocks in text and illustrations. With an introduction that recognizes the growing number of ""rockhounds"", the rewards and profits from what is both an outdoor and indoor activity, and the contributions of the regional federations and their sponsored conventions, this then gives the basic requirements of starting and building a collection with the equipment needed and continues into the recognition keys for identification of the specimens. There is a drawing of each mineral and rock headed by its keys, and diagrammed to show them; this is followed by text which gives the locations, history and pertinent facts about them. Chemical formulae, additional sources of information in magazines and books wind up a working field book for personal as well as classroom use. Helpful.
