MOST VALUABLE PLAYER

Chris Boyd and Eddie Conners are both talented ballplayers for Lansing High School's baseball team. But there the likeness ends. Chris, a product of a wealthy home where he has had every benefit his parents can afford, is secure, confident, and easygoing. He plays ball as a part of a team -- always conscious of team victory above personal glory. Eddie, on the other hand, a product of an underprivileged environment, is constantly battling the world in an effort to overcome his sense of inferiority. On the ballfield Eddie is one man, out to win glory-- and the most valuable player award. Through an incident involving teamwork off the field, Eddie learns the importance of team play. The championship is won and the most valuable player award goes to both boys. For a non-reading baseball fan, this is a good book--plenty of ballgame action, conversation, and plot. The experienced reader will find the characters too stereotyped, the plot too contrived, and the problems and their solutions too black and white.
