An easy, informal telling characterizes this history of the force. From a pleasantly romanticized historical and geographical survey of Canada, the author goes on to draw from his own experiences and talks with Mounties, to give a round-up of stories of their development and particularly noteworthy deeds. As background material there is an overall picture of the many problems and occupations the Mounties have today. To fill in, there are for instance, tales of the foundation in 1873 of James Macleod who as the personification of honesty and fairness, made peace with Sitting Bull; of cross country railroading; of the Klondike Gold Rush; of an arctic mystery- that point to fine standards and the attitude- ""all in a day's work"".
