KIRKUS REVIEW

The old, old legend which Goethe put into verse and Paul Dukas (among others), into music. This prose version is simple and direct, though now and then marred by strained attempts to use colloquial English. The pictures by Frank Lieberman, many in full color, have much more distinction than the text.
