Established in Tootletown via the first book of the series, Tinker the rabbit and Tanker the hippopotamus decide to put their repair shop to good use. So with the help of the blacksmith, the sailmaker, and the ropemaker they set about creating a space ship to the moon. Once done, the fish shaped balloon and attached basket carry them, alas, with a great thud to the ground. Unwilling to permit their objet d'art a rubbish-heap fate, they provide it with a milder more useful purpose. A suspenseful climb leads us nowhere but to a hasty unexciting conclusion. The illustrations on the other hand, featuring a handsome space ship a la Jules Verne, are much more appealing than the text in their bright happy design and color.
