A ""stunt book"" -- but far and away better than most so characterized. Remember In The Midst of Life by Minna Curtis? This has somewhat the appeal of that, in its recapturing of the story of a marriage through looking backward -- and without the grimness of realization that it exists only in memory. The story is told, simply, tenderly, by the man who has always loved her, to Mary, who has come to him to ask him to get her a divorce from her husband. He writes her a long letter -- letting the past speak for itself, as a deterrent to her desires. There is a tug of restrained sentiment -- a beauty of handling, that makes this a cameo of the thousand and one boom-and-depression marriages. A real chance for plus sales.
