THE FELIX FACTOR

George Random finds himself by-passed after sixteen years as an Assistant Editor for Vigor magazine. According to the Institute for the Management of Human Resources, Vigor needs revitalizing. George, in frustration, goes to the Institute and demands compensation which comes after a series of psychological tests. The tests show that his Felix (aggression) factor is soaring. And that he would be the perfect man for Minivox, chemical manufacturers. George is relocated as Personnel Director in charge of morale which at Minivox is rock bottom. It seems that they are also researching APIW--the complat Anti-Personnel Incendiary Weapon for the Government. This then becomes more tract than fiction with endless debates--generally conscience vs. capital gains. There's George going through his changes; young Alec Minton, a psychological tester and ex-antiwar protester who finds himself on the enemy's side; and John Landau, spokesman for morality who is committed to sabotaging Minivox. The issues are handled well with points scored for both sides. But George becomes a credit card caricature and the emotionally charged dilemma fizzles out.
