This sequel to Walk of the Spirits (2008) brings Miranda into another ghostly adventure. In a dreamy, ellipsis-laden narrative, Miranda sees ghosts—and sexy Cajun classmate Etienne—at the reconstructed plantation house Belle Chandelle. Without the help of her grandfather, the recently dead spirit mediator, Miranda is terrified by the ghosts she sees. Meanwhile, she has to navigate her social group’s high-school soap operas: Is Ashley going to cheat on Parker? Who is in love with Miranda, Etienne or Gage? Is Ashley keeping secrets from Roo? Even while Miranda and her friends race to solve the terrifying supernatural puzzle, nothing is as fascinating or absorbing as who is dating whom. Luckily, Miranda manages to find time between bouts of high-school drama for magical hallucinations, which tell her how to rescue the tormented spirits.
