Walton returns to his prolific bunny community, this time to introduce youngsters to the concept of school. Rhyming couplets perk along at a cheerful pace describing the daily rituals that encompass a school day. Readers learn about show-and-tell, the three R’s, music and, of course, recess, among other activities. The text is simple; each segment addresses a particular topic, describing it and instilling a few school maxims along the way. For example, at snack time the bunnies are reminded to wash up first and throw their trash away last. It remains, then, for Miglio’s terrific illustrations to tell the whole story. Although her world is populated by her cuddlesome bunnies, her physical depictions of school are firmly grounded in reality. Seasoned schoolgoers will recognize familiar facets of the classroom, while newcomers get enough information to help prepare them for their first big day. The full-color, full-bleed pictures have enough detail to satisfy the most curious of tots eager to learn about every little bit of school. Sure to help ease the transition. (Picture book. 3-6)
