If you think that ""stereotypical sexist practices at the preschool level"" and TV programming for ""female submissiveness"" can prevent your little Susie from becoming a lawyer, then follow the advice of these two authors who have mapped out the rearing of girl children from infancy to college. Pink and blue layettes are out, say these two, who believe in starting from the ground up. Don't let 'em read The Little Engine That Could (sexist). Censor their TV watching, their dictionaries (some have non-sexist definitions--use those), their toys, their reading. The kicker: ""If a girl's primary goal is to marry someone from whom she can derive status and economic security, she certainly should focus on becoming a professional woman."" In a recent study of professional women, they note ""100 percent of the sample were married. Forty percent of the dentists, 51 percent of the attorneys, and 68 percent of the physicians had married men in the same profession."" Seems like a lot of trouble to go through to be sure your kid marries a doctor.
