ACE-IN-THE-HOLE HAGGARTY

Odd angles for a fresh, fast yarn which is entertaining. The story is told by Benedict, richest rancher in the New Mexico territory, who has taken on hired killer Haggarty, to protect his ranch from rustlers, and kept on despite Benedict's distrust of him. Haggarty gets tagged as a yellowbelly at the start as he ducks a fight, outfoxes the homesteaders, moves in on Benedict's water rights, gets shot up, and finally takes double vengeance as he gets the man who bushwhacked Benedict's son and Benedict's best-friend (who turns out to be his prime enemy).
