TOWARDS AN ABIDING PEACE by R.M. MacIver

TOWARDS AN ABIDING PEACE

By

Pub Date: June 29th, 1943

Another encompassing, longview overall of the problems to be faced at -- and thought out before -- the Armistice. With the Versailles Treaty as the horrible example, MacIver shows that a lasting peace cannot be created by a military mentality, that revenge -- hate -- retaliation must be curbed, and that the price of victory is not the price of peace. He lays down the foundations of international order; discusses the questions of territorial reapportionment, reparations (there should be none), colonial administration and economy on an international basis, re-education, and the abolishment of all national armaments. He outlines -- broadly -- the creation of an Assembly of Nations which must include all nations, the new code of law, and a higher institution for its enactment. A book which has vision -- though it is never too visionary -- although it is strictly theoretical. Limited market.
