MIDSHIPMAN LEE

There have been more stories of West Point than of Annapolis, and this -- dealing largely with the summer cruises -- will fill a definite niche. Some of the episodes appeared in The American Boy as short stories, but the finished book gives no impression of an episodic treatment, since there is good suspense and good build-up, not only in story but in character and relationship between characters. Robb White has written two other boy's books, both first rate, but both inclining the reader to feel that a melodramatic situation is essential to him. This disproves that theory. He is first and last a good story teller, but in MIDSHIPMAN LEE the story is only half of the interest. The presumably authentic picture of the life of the cruise is excellent.
