HUSBAND-COACHED CHILDBIRTH

Dr. Bradley, a Colorado obstetrician, has distended the practice of natural childbirth to an apogee of togetherness. He will tell you, in the first chapter, that during the delivery the husband should alternate back rubs with a reprise of the ""love line"" which led to the pregnancy in the first place. In the last chapter, ""Daddy Helped Born Me,"" there is the recommendation that he bring his camera to take a ""daddy picture"" (Smile, little mother?) for the baby book. In between he articulates his philosophy of parturition: he doesn't like the word ""deliver""--this is a joyful experience; he prefers ""emptying the baby box."" He gives full particulars to Daddy-Coach on how he should not only assist during the delivery but supervise the previous months when she should be doing her exercises; actually his general commentary on the processes of pregnancy and preparation for the (yes) delivery is explicit and will be helpful if you are in rapport with this reciprocal program.
