SOUND OF BOW BELLS: The Story of David Salemans

The sound of bow bells symbolized David Solomans' belief in the future. In an era of religious inequality David was determined to prove that Jews were intensely loyal subjects of the crown and as such had the right to hold political office. As a successful financier, he proves his leadership ability and is appointed first High Sheriff of London and later of Kent County. Salomans' work in Parliament under Disraeli, helped eradicate political inequality based on religion and paved the way for the active assimilation of Jews into British life. The writing is so dull, the political era so sketchy, the characters so wooden, that few readers will be held on any level.
