The boy hero in this Civil War incident is fifteen year old private Johnnie Adams who goes as a volunteer with James Andrews on his famous railroad raid for the Union Army in 1862. As one of their first inroads on Southern territory after initial defeats, Northern forces under General Mitchell sent. Andrews and a group of men to capture an engine on the line between Atlanta and Chattanooga, run it north, burning bridges and tearing up track behind them. The fictionalized account here, tells of one escape after another and of their final capture (after the damage was done) and of Johnnie's flight to safe territory. Adequate.
