But it is Mother who kills the pretty girl who comes to spend the night at his motel, the insurance detective who follows a lead there, and, while it is a local Sheriff who finally puts Norman where he belongs, it is the psychiatrists who put together the fragments of the crime and a fragmented personality.... Garishly pathological, but for the reader- a strait-jacket which is sure to immobilize them.
