This collection should be considered first as a delightfully varied group of stories, with good pace, lots of humor, adventure and entertaining fact. Some are animal stories; some stories of ventures children have undertaken; some are stories of human relationships; some are sports stories. A few are taken from longer works. The authors include such familiar names as Beverly Clearly, Glen Rounds, Marion Renick, Eleanor Estes, Elizabrth Coatsworth, Walter Brooks. There isn't a poor story in the lot. A secondary consideration is that these stories are chosen for interest level at fifth and sixth grades, but with special attention to vocabulary, length and reading potentials for fifth and sixth graders with reading difficulties. A great deal has been done at second and third grade level, this meets a definite need for older boys and girls who are still experiencing difficulties.
