A thoroughly nice book, with humor, diverting characters and situations, and a sense of the unusual which is for the few rather than the many. Mr. Moonlight is a trader on Danger Island in the South Seas, and this is the story of his life with the natives, his many coups for tremendous sales, his gossip sessions with Mamma his cook, the love affair of his helper and its pitfalls, and his own amorous dalliances. The communal life of the island, with its commentary on civilized life in the world outside, Mr. Moonlight's dissertations on his favorite authors, Mr. Moonlight carried away by his own rhetoric, etc. etc. -- A book without plot, almost, which rambles along leisurely and intelligently.
