KIRKUS REVIEW

This is an anthology of short stories as well as excerpts from novels, selected specially to point up the broad vein of earthy humor, usually inextricably mixed with the morbid, that runs through all of Caldwell's works. In the introduction, the editor re-examines Caldwell's life and finds that contrary to legend, Caldwell was neither born into, nor knew at first hand, the life of the tobacco roaders--that his is a creation of the imagination, not a record of things experienced. Included are parts of Read The Sure Hand of God and A the short stories are Big Buck Honey where the and the Indian and George Hepkins.
