KIRKUS REVIEW

From ""Wassail Song,"" ""The Bells. . ."" and ""Auld Lang Sync"" for New Year's to nine Christmas songs, both carols and secular: 100 pieces, ranging from the inevitable (""We Shall Overcome"" for Martin Luther King Day) to the didactically sanitized (""It's the Same the Whole World Over"" has new words for Earth Day and ""He Knew the World Was Round-O"" is tame as a textbook). Quackenbush finds more or less appropriate songs for such a variety of special occasions as Pan American Day (""Cielito Lindo,"" ""La Cucaracha""), Labor Day (""Erie Canal,"" etc.), and Election Day (""Ma Ma Where is Papa""--with no indication of its political history). Harry Buch contributes guitar chords along with supersimple--yet sometimes ungainly--piano arrangements.
