CITIES AND CHURCHES: Readings on the Urban Church

This is an invaluable book for the increasing number of those who are interested in our American cities and their churches. Dr. Lee, now at San Francisco Theological Seminary, has edited a compendium of the writings of those who in recent years have been thinking most constructively and imaginatively about our burgeoning urban life and the program of the Protestant churches. Material is here assembled which may be useful to seminary instructors, in urban church institutes and training centers of the material deals with the modern city as a sociological phenomenon, much of it has to do with Protestant church strategy and theology; but an encouraging amount of space is given to pioneering ventures in city church work. From these, similarly situated may learn something of a working philosophy and of new techniques. The roll of the contributors would read like a Who's Who to city church life. It is unfortunate that a book which should serve a wide reference role is published in paper at this price.
