MUTANTS: Eleven Stories of Science Fiction

All of these stories of mutants have been previously published; their combined presence here leaves the reader with a feeling of rather overwhelming horror, for none of the mutations seems remotely beneficial or even very tolerable for anyone concerned. Perhaps the most appealing story is ""Liquid Life,"" which concerns a mutated, filterable virus which has an enormous effect on the lives of three young scientists; there is at least an element of humor to mitigate the horror here. Others present a rather obscure and perhaps dated view in light of scientific discoveries and events since their original publication (only two originated later than 1960). There hardly seems enough thought-provoking stimulation here -- it's more often our emotional centers which respond -- to justify any attempt to perpetuate these mutations.
