The mechanics of these ten short stories are primarily psychological confrontations between machines as humble servants and clanking Frankensteins. Four standouts include Fritz Lieber's ""A Bad Day for Sales"" as the newest salesman model continues peddling its wares after a mega-bomb explosion; Lester Del Rey's ""Instinct"" where a race of future robots try to reconstruct a mankind that they've almost forgotten and Lewis Padgett's ""The Twonky,"" an unusual device that not only functions as servant but as censor. . . a theme that Jack Williamson does an extremely good job with in ""With Folded Hands"" where the human race finds themselves overly protected for their own good. Automechanically insured for sales.
