Details concerning the Army, Navy, and Air Force programs abound: from the history and overall goals of the selection process for entrance and scholarships clown to the details that could help students choose (e.g., the naval branch doesn't accept most people whose eyesight is not 20/20 without correction). The tone is one of pride and challenge, one which terms the United States the ""leader of the free world,"" having ""global responsibilities and global obligations."" Collins gives scant attention to the scope or validity of anti-war sentiment in the 60's and 70's, saying ROTC was ""under attack by some elements of the population."" While options, participating colleges, and advantages are clearly outlined, disadvantages are not. With college costs astronomical, some high-school students, their counselors, and parents will welcome this comprehensive guide to combining scholarships with service.
