TEILHARD DE CHARDIN'S THEOLOGY OF THE CHRISTIAN IN THE WORLD

According to Teilhard's enunciation of his classic thesis, the function of the Christian in the world is twofold: to renounce the world, and to conquer the world. The purpose of this book is to establish the connection between that double endeavor and the fact of Christian revelation by means of a synthesis of the great Jesuit's thought on the significance of the life of the Christian in the world. Basing himself on the whole of Teilhard's works, unpublished and published, Father Faricy treats each fundamental concept within that framework; the reconciliation of theological and scientific faith, the role of evolution, the meaning of the universe for the Christian, the tripodal concept of creation-effort-Eucharist, the place of evil in the world, and Christian endeavor as participant in Christ's work of reparation for sin and unification of the world in Christ. As one of the many synthetic approaches to Teilhard's work, Father Faricy's work is unsurpassed in thoroughness, clarity, and importance. Because of the almost exclusively ""spiritual"" slant of the subject, however, the book will more than likely appeal only to those whose interest in Teilhard's thought is not solely intellectual or scientific.
