This is the poet's first novel, and, personally, we wish he'd stick to his last. This is the story of a post-armistice affair, with a thoroughly unappealing hero. Edward, hanging on in Paris after the war, restive, discontented, humorless, attracted by Germaine, a French girl, gay and pleasure loving, given to small deceits. The rub comes through Edward's unwarranted lack of trust, his jealousy, which spoil their irresponsible good times and finally bring an open split. Bohemian fringe for background of a slight story, which seems irrelevant now.
