THE SUBURB BY THE SEA

This is the work of a major poet in a relaxed and charming mood, content to deal with the trivia of everyday living. There are satiric little pieces on garden parties, and sailboating, on social climbers, and atomic warfare, with most lines polished to a high glow. Occasionally there is a lyric to make the heart glad. Some of these verses have appeared in the New Yorker and The AtLantic Monthly, but none of them is too high hat to be recommended to those readers who like only the least strenuous occasional verse.
