Norman was a lonely penguin boy urged on by his parents to go out and make friends. So, he made an imaginary friend of the Snow Penguin that he built. Their afternoon experiences together are full of adventure and lead to their taking tea with the Snow Queen of the Arctic, as madly fanciful as Alice's tea. Norman's parents don't understand and are anxious about him. However, younger readers (and their imaginary friends) will be with Norman all the way. -- ""A snow pal is better than no pal."" Through the judicious use of black dots, Mr. Kraus has suggested the grainy texture of snow in the three color illustrations. He has brought the same humorous insight and sympathy to he story of Norman that made The Littlest Rabbit and The Trouble with Spider favorites.
