THERE'LL BE A HOT TIME IN THE OLD TOWN TONIGHT by Robert -- Illus. Quackenbush

THERE'LL BE A HOT TIME IN THE OLD TOWN TONIGHT

As usual with his ""picture songbooks of Americana,"" Quackenbush overextends his material, adding here a few verses of his own, an unintentionally ghastly neon-mauve portrait of ""Chicago today,"" and even a serious ""fire survival plan"" at the end. However, his black-outlined, color-saturated garishness is more suited to flames and frenzy and a city at night than it is to the series' previous more bucolic scenes, and it's a song that calls for exaggerated effects.
