Kaleidoscope of a journalist's life, as he meets ""such interesting people""- not an orderly autobiography; not even a book of consecutive impressions. But jottings on the cuff, recalling the piracies, pranks, feuding, legends, hoaxes, trials and errors, bon mots of the press. It all stems from his own somewhat checkered career, -- Des Moines Texas, Chicago (on the staff of a paper nobody read, Inter Ocean) -- and eventually Hearst and the Daily News. He writes of good company and bad, -- of sports writers, impressarios, copy boys, photographers, gangsters, alcoholics, etc. Screwball -- high comedy -- but the market for Low Man on a Totem Pole will like it. Good release.
