SHASTA AND ROGUE: A Coyote Story

Like a kennelful of similar accounts, this story of how the author and his family adopted two coyote pups is as predictable as puddles on the linoleum. The varmints are -- surprise -- adorable, have personalities, present amusing travel difficulties, have a small streak of the wild apparent in territory defense and the mating season, etc. The Behmes had the good sense to realize that these creatures once they've been domesticated cannot really be turned loose. And en passant there are salutary remarks about cruel and unnecessary extermination of coyotes as predators. With photographs, a mild offering with easily computed appeal.
