KIRKUS REVIEW

A new edition in the illustrated in brilliant color by Alice and Martin Provenson. As expected the Provenson have utilized a rich palette of colors, delectable complements to the wide selection of poems here -- rusty browns and sunny yellows for ""Autumn Fires"", lush greens and browns for ""My Kingdom"", luscious salmon pinks, oranges, purples -- and again the drawings and design have a light airiness and whimsey currently popular in fanciful picture books. We do have two complaints, however:- we miss the realistic base of the traditional drawings which stimulated and suggested rather than defined the visual imagination; and why the contradiction of modern technique and Victorian dress? However, it's mighty pretty!
