Again the confidently aggressive and consuming pace of The Matlock Paper and its equally hard-traveling predecessors--namely about Rhinemann, a Jew in Buenos Aires, who will be the intermediary in a conscienceless transfer which will protract the war. The time is 1943 and Peenemunde, in order to survive, needs industrial diamonds while the U.S. needs the high-altitude directional gyroscopes which they, and only they, produce there. The man in the middle of all this is an American agent--newly recruited--Spaulding who does not know what is really involved until it's almost too late to counteract it--particularly when you're up against your own people--or the others--who are coequally dealing ""in pragmatics,"" sometimes spelled ""priorities."" In any case, double the action, twice your money's worth, and a Dual Literary Guild selection.
