Tempering the enthusiasm of its British publisher--""a gripping political thriller""--it's hard to think that The Zinoviev Letter has been written to the general reader here. Briefly the letter was presumably authored by Zinoviev of the Comintern exhorting the British Communists toward revolution in 1924. Actually it was the sleight of handwork of an emigre counter-revolutionary (whose widow gives evidence here) and its importance is that it killed Ramsay MacDonald's Labour Government at the polls, reversing the next election in favor of the Conservatives. The authors have punctiliously researched and recorded this former headline in six point print leaving very little to final conjecture except a readership.
