Ladybugs are almost always popular with children. Nobody feels squeamish about them and they are readily recognized as beneficial. The author has produced many excellent animal studies for young readers. As in many books of this kind, this traces the life cycle of the subject by following the events occurring to one ladybug during the space of a year. Particular emphasis is on how the ladybug preys on insect pests, like aphids. The text also indicates how it protects itself where it lives, its different varieties, and the related species.
