THE PEREGRINE FALCON by Robert Murphy

THE PEREGRINE FALCON

By

Pub Date: Jan. 7th, 1963
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin

Report repeated from p. 813, when scheduled for fall publication, as follows: ""Varda, a golden falcon, is followed from the pre-conception nest building of her parents on a cliff in the Barren Grounds of Canada through her fledgling days, a capture by and brief term with a falconer, to her flight for freedom. Unlike the bird, the book does not strike swiftly. Although there is some fascination in the details of her birth and parental training, Varda, as a part of the balance of nature or in her encounters with man, is never as vital nor as fiercely alive as those in the non-fiction titles that deal with predators and the art of falconry. This may be due to the fact that less than her whole life cycle is dealt with and the bird, her freedom regained, is still only on the threshhold of adulthood, or that her wings have been clipped by The Great Auk (p. 818).
