MORNING IN IOWA

Frail as this little narrative poem is, it will sell on the Nathan name and wide popularity. It is the brief story in verse of a Cape Cod girl who leaves home and works her way west where she meets, by chance, a young Colorado cattleman, who has come east to sell his steers in Iowa. This has most of the faults and virtues of Mr. Nathan's idylls; the verse moves mellifluously, the story is told with a light hand, and in the imagery there is grace, purity and airiness. There is a dash of the usual nostalgic philosophy, there is considerable sentimentality, and there is no end of fashionable enthusiasm for the beautiful, bountiful land of America. A half hour's worth of pure escapism, Nathan styled.
