KIRKUS REVIEW

Here are Maine people, farmers, villagers, land dwellers and sea dwellers, and there is a homely philosophy, a homespun quality that makes these ballads stem from the very soul of the Down Easters and the soil from which they sprung. These ballads have more of a folk quality than his Square-Toed Americans.
