AND ANOTHER THING...

With echoes that incorporate the feeling from Where Did You Go?..... and with a sense of the commonplace this collection of poems-or lyrical expressions- embody this author's attitudes and response to -- well, a lot of things. He keeps the meter going:-about pockets -- what is in them when; about food -- which does not taste as good now as then; about dreams and girls and women; about things that own you and Madison Avenue buses; about professional men and tossing the alphabet in a new way from A to Z; about things that are quiet, domestic -- and noisy; and about how you write the longest poem in the world or how you can play with words (in the way that Ogden Nash has done before); and of course, about children -- their worlds and adults', and -- especially and particularly- about sons. There is the city as well as the country, animals and insects and seasons, and even the titles tease and tickle. And its saucy, innocent delight in its own cocky viewing of a world within and without is transmitted -- in the way you might expect of this author. Firm -- and fanciful.
