The convivial Franciscan is national chaplain for the American Guild of Variety Artists and this is an instant re-dredge of slumberous anecdotes in biodegradable prose enlivened only occasionally by ""Father Bob's' sparklers: ""Jackie Robinson has entered the eternal dugout"" or ""Clayton received his final curtain from the Divine Director."" There are tales of Father Bob with Perry Como (who mysteriously ended their friendship when the priest asked for a humble color TV for a mission), with the Schnozz, Father Bob at Las Vegas. And more -- funds raised and artists secured and a few swipes at celebs like Crosby, Newman and Sammy Davis, as well as some inside ones at clerical superiors. Undoubtedly likable and garrulous, Father Bob talks a ring around his collar.
