That easy-reader regular, Detective Mole, turns up this time in a big, multicolored picture book--the better, presumably, to illustrate the climax. . . when the town's stolen jack-o'-lanterns are set out on the ground to spell out ""SHEBA IS HERE!"" Sheba, you see, is the cat of ""a very important witch."" A year back, she fell off the witch's broomstick. This year, she ""borrowed"" the town's pumpkins ""to light them all as a signal that even my mistress could see."" Her mistress, it happens, is nearsighted. All of this is ultimately explained to Detective Mole--which means that his detecting is very minor here. The whole thing, in fact, is mostly contrivance--crudely drawn and glaringly colored.
