A relentless shaggy dog story, illustrated with Quackenbush's relentless heavy hand. In early September Dirk sends off a list to Santa, and from then on he refuses all invitations and passes up family outings because he ""has to"" stay home and wait for Christmas. Finally Christmas arrives, Dirk receives everything he's requested, and his relieved parents suggest some outings--but, once more, Dirk says he can't go: he has to stay home and wait for his birthday, which is on April 29. About then, most parents would call in a shrink.
